The unique, C-shaped, pressure responsive gaskets design has been the heart of the grooved systems since its inception. Relying on compound compression set and the initially flared design, the gasket seals on the dimension of the pipe O.D This design accommodates the pipe movement noted, while sealing under both pressure and vacuum. The manufacture and test is to ASTM D2000 and UL quality controlled with test of hardness strength, strength at break, elongation at break(normal state), change in hardness, change in strength at break, change in elongation at break(hot air ageing), and low temperature compression set available rubber compounds now include the standard gasket EPDM for water(+230°F /+110°C )and a nitrile compound gasket for oil services(to+180°F /+82°C ). Special gaskets include fluoroelastomer, neoprene, silicone, white nitrile and epichlorohydrin. Each gasket is traceable by being marked with manufacturing date, fomula code and operator's code.
During assembly, the gasket is slightly stretched over the pipe ends, applying the natural compression of the angled lips as well as the resiliency of the entire gasket body. It is important to note that grooved coupling gaskets always should be lubricated on the lips and the outside back before assembly.
Assembly of the coupling housing over the gasket mates it closely to the gasket back, fully encasing the gasket with a backbone of ductile iron. With the bolt pads fullyightened this adds additional compressive force without full compression, leaving the natural resiliency as an active sealing force within the joint. The full encasement of the gasket prevents any extrusion of the rubber under high pressure.
ANSI/NSF Standard 61 is a National Standard that was developed to establish minimum requirements for the Control of potential adverse human health effects from products which contact drinking water. Its primary focus (+110°C)Maximum.
Gasket compounds are selected depending on the service. The couplings are utilized for water services. The main rubber compound is EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). For oil services to 82 °C and gas streams with hydrocarbon, Buna N is adopted for gasket material.

Characteristic description
Like silica gel, fluorosilicone rubber combines trifluoropyl, methyl and ethylene as side chains, but fluorosilicone rubber is fluorinated. The mechanical and physical properties of fluorosilicone rubber are similar to those of silica gel, but fluorosilicone rubber has better physical properties of fuel and mineral oil resistance than silica gel, but it is inferior to silica gel in heat resistance. Fluorosilicone rubber has excellent resistance to aviation fuel oil, hydraulic oil and synthetic diester lubrication, and can work for a long time at a high temperature of 204 ° C (400 ° f). Although it is mostly used in the field of aerospace, fluorosilicone rubber has been more and more widely used in the manufacture of seals because of its excellent fuel resistance and stability at high temperature.
